Pair of early George III silver candlesticks, maker indistinct, London 1765, having removable sconces over a Corinthian column and stepped square base, detailed with anthemion and an egg and dart border (loaded and with wooden inset base), height 28cm

More Information

One nozzle has the sterling mark but there are no further marks on the nozzles.

The pair of sticks are very close to vertical and the columns have small pinprick knocks throughout and the nozzle has been pierced. There is a slight bend on these, meaning the top of the nozzle isn't perfectly horizontal.

The worst of the damage to these sticks is around the base where, when viewed closely, there is excessive wear to the high points resulting in wholes which have some time ago been filled with soft solder. There are some dents on the upper surfaces as well and the bases are bowed at the sides and do not sit flat.

The underside of the base is turned wood which is original.
