Russian niello silver snuff box, third quarter 19th Century, rectangular form, the hinged cover worked with a figure reading within a landscape, the underside having a view of a town, gilded interior, marked '84' and other indistinct marks, 7cm x 3.5cm

The cover is worn with some loss of detail and the irregularity of the background now stands out beyond the niello details, see images. There are signs of wear to the sides and a small dent on the right-hand panel. The underside is good. The box closes crisply. Original gilt to the interior with marks, some a little unclear.
