Carved hardwood walking cane, with simple geometric incised decoration, possibly Aboriginal Australian, 92cm; also another walking cane, the handle carved as the head of a greyhound or lurcher, 90cm (2)

More Information

The condition of the club stick is generally good with no particular problems found. There is an indentation at the top of the cane that may have housed a stone or piece of coral or similar. Adjacent to this there is a natural crack within the wood and a couple of small knocks within that area, see images. It is carved from one continuous piece of wood. At the foot of the cane the ferrule is missing.

With regard to the other cane, the dog would originally have had glass eyes which are now missing. Some of the teeth are missing and the ears are pierced, probably for a leather loop. One of the ears has a chip to the end.

No further damage detected.
