Fine Japanese Satsuma vase by Kinkozan, Meiji (1868-1912), shouldered ovoid form, decorated with panels of warriors and bijin in raised gilt enamels against a deep blue ground dispersed with foliate clouds in formalised bands of gilt, beneath a neck of karakusa and foliage detailed with green and red enamels, impressed marks and signed in gilt 'Kinkozan Tsukuru', height 30cm

More Information

There is very minor rubbing to the gilt at the extremities. Condition of the gilding to the neck and shoulders is generally very good and elsewhere on the body the rubbing is minimal. There is the odd tiny spot of household paint (see image). Within the painting, especially the flowers on the background of the body there is tarnish to the silver enamel which also permeates to the edge of the robes of the figures. This is tarnished. We have done a test clean on a very small area which we have photographed. As can be seen this does polish to contrast with the adjacent gilt. There are no cracks, chips or restoration.
