Naval officer's short sword (cutlass), 19th Century, 67cm blade, 45 degree angle brass finger guard and shagreen hilt, brass mounted leather scabbard

More Information

Cracks and surface losses to the leather scabbard. The stitching has rotted on the reverse leaving a split. The blade has some rough spots but a good tip. shagreen hilt is in good condition as is the brass finger guard. There are no marks to the blade whatsoever. It has been suggested that this is a police service cutlass or a prison service cutlass and not a naval cutlass as catalogued but we haven't been able to confirm this.
