Formal Valuations Service
Our valuation service provides a confidential and professional service to solicitors, executors and trustees, and private clients for the purpose of Probate, Insurance, Family Division and Inheritance Tax.
Our Probate Services Department provides a range of probate services to some of the North West's leading legal practices. These flexible services range from simple probate valuations right through to our all-inclusive service that manages the complete probate service from initial valuation, through house clearance, storage, auction sale, disposal (where relevant), and distribution of bequests worldwide.
Valuations for Probate can normally be undertaken at short notice and with minimal intrusion and maximum discretion during this traumatic time for bereaved relatives.
For further information on our range of probate services, please contact our Probate Services Department on 01244 681311.
Insurance valuations are comprehensive documents that reflect current replacement values and can include, as an option, digital images which aid recovery in the event of a loss and can assist in restoration following accidental damage.
Informal Valuations Service
If you are serious about selling but would like to know what your items may fetch at auction before you make a decision then one of our valuers will be happy to discuss probable auction values prior to consignment if you bring them to the saleroom between 9am and 11am on any week day, excluding auction day (please see schedule). During the Covid-19 outbreak this service is temporarily unavailable, but we would be pleased to receive photographsby e-mail of things you are considering selling. Please see below for details.
If you have large items, a complete collection or need a valuation of the contents of a whole property, we will be delighted to visit you, appraise your items and arrange for the collection and sale of your consignment.
Valuations over the phone or by post or e-mail
It is extremely rare that we are able to give estimates of auction value over the phone as identifying an item from a layman's description is virtually impossible.
We are happy to accept photographs by email or post for the purpose of providing you with an initial appraisal. Any such appraisal will be provided on the strict understanding that it is done so subject to a physical inspection being carried out at some point. When submitting photographs for the purpose of initial appraisals, please apply the following guidelines:
1. Please send only clear images of the whole piece
2. For china, glass and works of art please include a clear picture of any marks as this will help in identifying the maker
3. For paintings, a clear, in-focus image (high resolution if digital) of any signature or marks on the back.
4. It is not necessary to send close up images of details on furniture in the first instance - instead send a good, clear image of the whole piece.
In most cases a good clear image will allow us to make an initial appraisal and we will then ask for specific information if we need it, or we will arrange to visit you.
