Estimate
£300 - £500
Set of six provincial ash and elm splat back chairs, early 19th Century, each with solid seat and chamfered square front legs, height 92cm
More Information
Condition: All the chairs have undergone running repairs throughout their lifetime. One has a steel brace on the back (see image) and an associated break. Some splats have been replaced, at least two, and some of the splat shoes have been replaced. There is evidence of old woodworm, particularly in the legs. Replacements to the seats. Two chairs have block extensions to the forelegs. Despite all this, in general the chairs appear uniform in colour and patina. Most of the repairs would not be detectable to the untrained eye and all the top rails are nicely patinated. The chairs are generally of uniform height and are sturdy in structure.
