Fees

Walnut dressing mirror, early 18th Century, having a shaped bevelled glass plate within a cushion moulded border, raised on a stepped base with concave fronted small drawers over one long tri-concave moulded drawer, all with brass knobs, on later bracket feet, width 41cm, height 80cm

More Information

The plate is the original but has degraded in places with a loss of silvering. Some of the mouldings on the outside edge have warped and been restuck. In our view both horns are replaced and in particular, the lower part of the right horn is a replacement and its housing has been split and a new dowel put in, but this is still wobbly and cannot support the mirror at present. All the bracket feet are replacements. There is no lock to the lower drawer. All the small brass knobs appear to be replacements. There are replaced sections of beadwork and veneer on the drawer facings. The backboard to the mirror is a replacement. The colour overall is good. The plate has some fine scratches.
