More Information

The case has been professionally restored. The turned wooden finials on top of the hood are later additions. The case has seen some fading on the left hand side which has now been stained to match the rest of the case. The quality of the restoration is good. The tail piece of the seconds hand is missing and there is evidence of a repair to the hour hand. It is possible that the dial has been repainted, again very professionally done if so. There are packing pieces beneath the seatboard, we feel this is only to accurately seat the dial within the arch. We cannot comment on the working condition, but the movement is clean and there seems no reason why the automaton should not rock. The clock has two weights and a pendulum. The door has a working key. The box base has a horizontal split to the veneers (see image). We are confident that the moulding around the base and the bracket feet are replacements. We do not believe this clock to be a marriage.
