Fees

Chinese gilt lacquered bronze figure of Guanyin, early Ming Dynasty, hollow cast, her head adorned with an openwork foliate crown centred with an amitabha buddha and seated in dhyanasana, with hands in dhyanamudra, wearing elaborate jewellery and simply cast robes with chased scroll edging falling over the later wooden stand, traces of original and later gilding and original paint, height 37cm, width 26cm

More Information

There are numerous layers of paint and gilt lacquer on this piece, much of which is now flaking and/or is lost. Details can be seen beneath the paint of scroll decoration at the edge of the robes and the finer details on the crown, which is largely devoid of paint, reflect the detail beneath the paint on the rest of the figure. There are bends at the base of the robes and small tears and creases in the bronze. On the back there is a dent and a tear approximately 6 - 7 cm.

We have found no marks on the piece.

This piece has been privately entered as being with the family for some time.
