Hammer
£2,100
Unusual silver and wooden model of a Boer War naval carriage gun, maker ED, London 1900, barrel length 20cm, overall length 36cm
More Information
It is possible that this could be a rather elaborate table cigar cutter, or table lighter, possibly for regimental use. However we have not been able to ascertain how this would work or whether it does function as such.
The barrel of the gun was originally fixed to the screw that affixes it and is currently severed. The loading mechanism at the back of the gun works, i.e. opens to reveal a steel spring inside the butt of the barrel. There is a fine dent to the underside of the fore end of the barrel, some minor denting to the wheels of the carriage.
No further damage detected.
