Charles II oak joined side table, circa 1680, the two plank top over a single long drawer with double moulded recessed panel front and brass tear drop handles, over turned slender baluster supports united by similar stretchers, width 87cm, depth 51cm, height 75.5cm

More Information

Correction to the width - it should read 87cm not 187cm. The top front plank has warped slightly, gapping at the front to approx. 5mm. Both planks on the top have signs of adzing and patination. The moulded detail on the side panels have been tacked on at a later date. There is a split running virtually the whole length of the back left leg on the back, and a further split on the upper part of the same leg just beneath the table top. On the front left upper leg there are signs of old woodworm. Plenty of wear and patination to all the legs and supports, with old losses. The drawer facing has a cut out. The drawer linings are elm and have evidence of old woodworm (advise to get this treated as a precaution). Later lock plate. No key. The feet have been reduced and additional blocks to lift the stretchers off the floor; it is probably missing some 5cm off the feet. All the legs and stretchers are beautifully patinated.
