Chinese gilt lacquered compendium box, 19th Century, canted rectangular form containing seven comparted boxes and eight gaming trays, with a quantity of Chinese mother of pearl counters comprising 67 of navette shape, 27 circular, 18 rectangular, 16 oval and one fish; the box 37.5cm x 31cm

Lid is worn and has lost much of its decoration. At the extremities of the box on the outside there are numerous chips and splits to the corners. Lid has had running repairs, visible on the inside. These are amateur and unsightly, together with splits and losses to the lacquer on the inside cover. Inside the boxes have damages to the edges. There are twelve trays with card suit decoration. No further damages to report.
