George III silver teapot on stand, by John Langlands I and John Robertson I, Newcastle, 1808/09, the teapot of fluted oval form with later silver finial, ivory insulators and having an old repair, height 15cm, the conforming stand with an engraved beaded gallery, engraved inscription to the centre and raised on four claw and ball feet, 17.5cm (2), gross weight approx. 591g (19 troy ozs)

More Information

Teapot: The cover has wear to the hinges. The finial looks like a replacement, as does the handle. There is a repair at the heel of the spout. Marks are clear on the underside. The inscription on the teapot and the decoration overall is worn, no daylight can be seen within the teapot. The tip of the spout is sharp to touch and has minute bends and serrations visible through a 10x loupe. Hallmarks are clear on the underside. In our opinion there may be further repairs around the edge of the base.
Stand: the inscription is clear, reading 'MA to MD', this corresponds to the traces of the inscriptions on the teapot. The stand is in altogether better condition, one leg having a slight bend. Hallmarks are clear on the underside.
