More Information

Condition: Overall this piece is in very good condition. There are minor surface scratches to the inside of the bowl and the inside of the cover. The wood appears a little 'dry' and it would benefit from a light polish. No major issues.
There is an interesting point to note which is that the lid appears to have been made with the intention of it being able to have an opening for a spoon or being made solid. So at its edge there is an extremely neat arch of silver solder. It appears that once decided whether this would be a solid lid or a preserve jar lid, this modification was made and then the flange was attached as the solder does not exhibit through the flange, only the lid (see images). We feel it must be noted in the condition report but that it is not a condition issue per se, but rather a manifestation of the practicality of the Arts and Crafts Movement!
