Staffordshire Constabulary painted wooden truncheon, second half 19th Century, decorated with the crowned royal arms, Staffordshire knot, gilded 'Stafford Shire Constabry.', plain ribbed grip with later leather wrist strap, length 44cm

More Information

Condition: The paintwork appears to be largely original with craquelure throughout. Small losses and rubbing and knocks, particularly at the tip. To the right of the crown there is an element which we believe to be an old repaint, this does not show up strongly under UV light but the detail is not consistent with the opposing side. Also we believe the ermine at the bottom of the crown to be a repaint. The upper right quadrant of the royal cipher is worn. There are a few sharp knocks to the handle, consitent with use and age.
