Oak and marquetry joined coffer, probably Yorkshire, late 17th Century, having a three recessed panel top with channel moulded outlines over a three recessed panel front inlaid with flowers and foliage in sycamore and holly, bordered with channel moulded outlines, width 122cm, depth 55cm, height 68cm

More Information

The top is nicely patinated and is original to the base. The hinges are replaced. There is no locking bracket on the underside of the lid. Inside there is hole in one of the planks and a replaced section. There is the usual wear to the back legs and a supportive plank underneath the chest supporting the baseboards.

There are some missing inlays on two of the panels on the front, see images. Altogether a nice looking coffer.
