Mahogany butler's silver valet stand by J W Hetherington, Lancaster, 19th Century, with two lift up compartments (one being removable) and a demi-lune tray, centred with a carrying handle, raised on slender turned legs with small brass castors, stamped three times on the underside 'J. W. Hetherington, Lancaster', width 53cm, depth 33cm, height 66cm
Literature: S.Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, p 248, plate B23, where there is a suggestion that Hetherington could have at some point been an apprentice or journeyman for Gillows, interestingly a cutlery stand of similar design, but with baluster turned rail is illustrated in the Gillows' Estimate Sketch Book, dated 25 July 1794.

Condition: The curved gallery on the table is almost certainly a replacement. Other than that, the whole is in a very good original state. Some fading on the table but otherwise nicely coloured, well patinated. Marked three times on the underside by the maker J W Hetherington. All original castors, no signs of woodworm or any repairs to the legs.
