£2,100
Queen Anne walnut chest on stand circa 1710, of small proportions, fitted with two short and two long drawers, featherbanded within moulded outlines, with brass shaped escutcheons and tear drop handles, over a base fitted with one long drawer, similarly furnished, raised on tapered octagonal section supports with wishbone shaped platform stretcher, raised on ball feet, width 71cm, depth 40cm, height 129.5cm
More Information
This piece has striking patination resulting in a deep gloss on the top. The top has multiple splits and marks consistent with age. Both the escutcheon and the tear drop handles are replacements but are a good match to how the chest would have been furnished originally. As a result there are filled holes and ring marks. There is a key which works all but the bottom drawer lock; this drawer is probably a replacement. As we near the base there are signs of fading. Some small losses to the veneers around the drawers. Small patches of replaced veneer on the back of the stand on each side. Old woodworm, with losses, to the front left leg.
